What I love about football Part 1. Sky Sports News

If you are like me and love the beautiful game, you may like some of the things I write, but then again you might not. Either way, rather than the views that are held by the Waldorf and Stadtler characters on Talksport, my views are not in any way expected to have you cursing at your computer/media device with an acid tongue in a subliminal attempt you to contact a show to air your opposing views. Instead, you may feel a kindred spirit is alive within you and you unbelievably agree with my asinine temperament.

Well as you have read the first part of this venture into blogging, you may as well continue (please do!) I thought I may as well talk about something that is at the heart of every British Football Fan and that is Sky Sports News. Or Sky Sports News HD to give it it's correct title.

This is now an institution that is fundamental to the lives of every football fan in the UK. I say every football fan, there will be some who don't live there lives like me who pin there day on a yellow bar streaming some breaking news about something or other, as I type Alex Song retires from international football. This type of information although banal and uninteresting to the uninformed, is riveting stuff to the anoraks like myself who see the complexities of him not going to the Africa Cup of Nations. (Although I am not sure if he was going anyway as I think he had fallen out with the Cameroon FA anyway) but nonetheless this is good stuff. Another story gracing the ticker is that Steven Gerrard may be digging a knife in before he leaves saying that he would have signed but wasn't offered a contract early enough. This is all information that keeps you hooked into the goings on around the football world.

From the hype of deadline day and the masses hanging out at training grounds waiting for Peter Odemwingie to sit outside their club, to the joyous hours of Soccer Saturday and Jeff Stelling. There is so much to love.

The layout of the screen with a multi-information platform gives the viewer a constant flurry of things to look at, and only heightens the necessity to carry on watching when the information you are waiting for is next to show on the ticker but is cruelly interrupted by an ill-timed advert break. This is finely balanced with the news readers who are very pleasing on the eye.

This is why I love Sky Sports News.

The drug that was fed to the public (via channel 83 on free view) and then taken away with you begging for more, dragging you for the next hit by making you subscribe to Sky and not just big standard Sky, but the also the Sports Package. This was not a problem in my household, as I already had Sky Sports but the fact that I had to get out of bed in the morning to watch it was an annoyance (as I didn't pay for multi room). The fact that the bods at Sky knew this would increase subscription was a bit of a master stroke and I take my hat off to the marketing guru who came up with that idea.

With every love however, there is always a downside. Not everyone loves it in our household. The "are you still watching this" statement is a regular utterance heard in the background as the remote is firmly hidden out of sight to avoid the change of channel. (This can only be changed when the lack of breaking news is sufficient enough to change to another football related show)

Returning to an earlier comment and the attractive presenters, I can honestly say that there is nothing more heartily embraced than when a new female presenter is introduced and my thoughts turn to the Sky Sports News female dressing room. (Not like that...) Much like when a new work colleague joins and they upset the balance, where does the newbie fit in on the pecking order. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that there is always a list of favourite presenters hidden in the recesses of each viewer's mind. So much like the charts do we have "a new entry at number two".

But I digress, this blog was just to write down some of the things I love about football and Sky Sports News is one of them. So if you have enjoyed reading this first attempt at a blog, maybe you will be compelled to read another. I hope so. Thanks for reading. Not to be confused with the one that plays in Blue and White Hoops.
